Impact Lender Movement Mortgage Supports 1 Year to Empowerment with $10,000 GraceWorks Grant

Salisbury, Maryland- Recently, impact lender Movement Mortgage proudly presented 1 Year to Empowerment, a local nonprofit organization, with a generous $10,000 GraceWorks grant. The grant supports their mission to empower middle and high school girls in the community. GraceWorks grants are made possible through the collaboration of Karis AMC and Movement Mortgage.

As part of their commitment to giving back, Movement Mortgage employees nominate local nonprofits to receive a $10,000 grant from the KM Foundation. In the year 2023 alone, Movement Mortgage and Karis AMC have collectively donated an impressive $1,000,000 in GraceWorks grants to  nonprofits across the country.

The $10,000 GraceWorks grant provided by Movement Mortgage will significantly contribute to 1 Year to Empowerment’s ongoing efforts to provide a free and year long mentoring program for middle and high school girls from Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, and Dorchester Counties.

Natalie Bennett, Executive Director of 1 Year to Empowerment shared, “We are beyond grateful for the GraceWorks Grant provided by the generous and community minded folks at Movement Mortgage and Karis AMC. Last month, 32 local girls (known as “Empowerees”) began their year long program, and the GraceWorks Grant helps to ensure that we can deliver a high-quality program that promotes self- esteem, self-respect, and self-reliance.”

“We are thrilled to support 1 Year to Empowerment and their invaluable work within our community,” said Mike Wessels, Branch Manager at Movement Mortgage. The support provided aligns perfectly with our mission of making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve. We are confident that this grant will help 1 Year to Empowerment further enhance their impact and create lasting change.”

About 1 Year to Empowerment:

The 1 Year to Empowerment program, operated under The Child and Family Foundation Inc., was created in 2014 by local child psychologist, Dr. Samantha Scott. 1 Year to Empowerment provides a free and year-long program that promotes self-esteem, self-respect, and self-reliance, and empowers middle and high school girls to make healthy choices, trusting friendships, and attainable goals.

The program serves girls from Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, and Dorchester Counties. Empowerees participate in engaging and hands-on weekend and afterschool activities (e.g., aerial yoga, self-defense, boxing, learning how to change a tire, career exploration, building a wheelchair ramp with Chesapeake Housing Mission, etc.) throughout their year long program.

1 Year to Empowerment’s vision is to empower middle and high school girls to live happy, healthy, and balanced lives. In 2024, the program will be celebrating 10 years of EMPOWERING local middle and high school girls!
